Sculpting a "Butterfly Chrysalis"

This video shows my porcelain sculpting process for a piece that is inspired by folio 82r of the Voynich Manuscript.

I showed the beginnings of this piece in a previous post when I made a mold of a miniature “sleeping” face. After a bit of a hiatus on this piece I am finally using this mold I previously made, to create a porcelain face, along with the “body.” But unlike some of my other “Voynich nymph” sculptures, this is not going to be an entirely human body, but rather one that evokes some features of a butterfly chrysalis. One of the things that the illustration on f82r reminds me of is a chrysalis, and this idea came from imagining it further in that direction. (I have more than one idea for this sculpture, and since I can’t just settle on one, this will likely turn into more than one related sculpture.) This one will also incorporate glass and light, but more on that when I reach that stage!
