Porcelain "Cloud-bands" glaze firing

After slowly air-drying my porcelain “cloud-bands” for several weeks, I’ve now bisque-fired and glaze-fired them.

After the bisque-firing, I painted a light blue underglaze in the interior spaces and then covered the whole sculpture with a clear transparent overglaze by spraying it on. Then it went back in the kiln...

The cloud-bands are soon going to go through another firing to add some luster on the edges. Instead of the gold luster that I’ve used in some of my previous sculptures, this time I’m going to do something a bit different and use a ‘mother-of-pearl’ luster. This gives a subtle iridescent effect that I think will enhance the idea of clouds.

My next challenge will be sculpting the “nymph” who stands in the center… and whatever that thing is that she’s holding!
